Sometimes being an adult, is really quite wonderful. You get to do what you want to do. You are in charge. You decide the course your life will take. The freedom of endless choice and possibilities! And then there are those times when being an adult- responsible and in charge, seems incomprehensible.
First there is the rent, cable, cell phone, garbage, water, electricity, bank accounts, and credit cards to keep track of. That is the easy stuff. Then there is the insurance(s) for all of the above to keep in mind, and then some. Car insurance, renters' insurance, health insurance, pet insurance, pet health care.
I think this about the time when the whole grandeur of possibility and choice starts to ebb and die out. The scope of the future starts to diminish. You get tunnel vision. First comes the five year plan, the ten year plan, 401ks, ROTH IRAs, capped of with a panic attack.
But here is where that wonderful, amazing part of being adult steps in again. Mid week I came home to my loving, ironic t-shirt wearing, domestic partner. Who saved me from the evil anxiety with a warm bowl of Tomato Bisque, and a three ringed notebook with the letters T.K.B. on it. It was official we were "Taking (K)are of Business" together.
That is the good part, the life that you have already made, that you chose. And if for any reason the life you have at this very moment isn't the one you want. You can always grab a pen, some lined paper, and T.K.B. it Up!
