Perhaps the best ever combination of words and events. The day starts early, with a beautiful drive through Sebastopol arriving at the first destination, the beautiful California coastline. Piping hot coffee, with fresh cream is poured for all to enjoy. The freshly baked pies are cut into with ravenous zeal. A sweet and tart Strawberry Rhubarb, and a deliciously dense fresh blackberry one. Occasionally there is sausage to even out the overwhelming sugar rush.
After lounging in the post pie bliss, a coast line hike is next on the list. At this time of year the tall grasses are littered with wild flowers. It is a place of pure happiness.
After the long but invigorating hike, some how ,you are starving again. A short drive and we are in a Redwood glen where a picnic is had. Red wine, white wine, cheeses, olives, shrimp, meat, breads and various crackers are just some of the lovely treats available.
As we relax and recount our favorites part of the day, soft sounds of songs in a foreign tongue drift over to our picnic table, turning the small glen into a place of worship and wonder.
All in all, one of the best days of my life ever. I can't wait for next year!
